Default Decoder Ring Deep Cuts #2!

Okay, so the first installment of Deep Cuts, our special content just for the fan pages, was a big hit. And it was silly and fun. We'll have more Outakes in the days to come, but what about the promised B-Sides and Rarities?

Well we don't have a lot of those, but this one's a doozy! It's a live recording from about ten years ago, and actually pre-dates the first uses of the "Decoder Ring Theatre" moniker by a couple of weeks. We did a handful of live performances from scripts from the original "goofy" Red Panda universe, as a fundraiser for the eventual studio recordings. This recording is far from perfect, and Lord knows we never expected to release it... And I should mention that the intro where the music is playing and Greg Cooke is talking at the same time sounds like complete rubbish... but you don't get much rarer than this, since until today, a single cassette tape was the only copy in the world! Bwa-ha-ha-ha!

So enjoy, with our nostalgic compliments DRT Deep Cuts #2 - Dynamite Dame LIVE!

And now, the link:

Download it in the FAQ

I got a chuckle out of the fact that one of Dorthy Dynamite's henchmen sounded like Bob and Doug McKenzie... Take off, you hoser.

and probably the first instance of The Red Panda being called "Professor". Is that where Kit got it in "Secret Origins"?

He was? ... I mean... oh, yeah. Of course he was.

... Really?

Naw, I expect the Secret Origins use of the word was just me trying to come up with things other than "Boss"

Default Wow...

The download has already reached its limit. Makes one wish a masked hero could swoop in and reload it!

If only...

Wow... I don't know why we got away with murder with the first file and have to play be the rules with the second, darn it. Alas.

I've reloaded the file and updated the link in the top post accordingly. Enjoy!

Thanks Gregg for re-submitting this link. I was out of town this weekend, and I would have hated to miss my chance at a complete Decoder Ring collection.

This was a good show. I love the feel of a live recording.

It was fun to listen to a story I'm already familiar with, and then all of a sudden get a few lines or a scene that I hadn't heard before.

Good stuff.

And I really enjoyed the music, too. Some of the riffs were familiar, and I suspect are still being used.

After much computer trouble I was able to finally listen to this ^^

It was a lot of fun! I think you got a real knack for absurb humor Greg. Maybe its time for a third serie where you can fully embrace that side of your inner author?

I LOVED the little line about that actual red panda who escaped a zoo. It was a hoot!! And that added scene between the Major and the Colonel? Nice!

Really interesting piece.

Thanks a lot!

You mean like a series about a world-renown Luchadore who travels the world wrestling and is consulted by the police services wherever he goes to help them solve crimes? And it's narrated by his friend and companion who happens to be a crazed beat poet?

Someday.
