Default What else do you listen to?

Hi all,

I'm a fairly new fan of audio dramas but I truly enjoy them and I can't seem to get enough of it. I seem to devour the shows like a starved Sneg pirate.

Unfortunately I haven't listened to that much except my "Space 1889" CD:s and all of the Decoder Ring Theatre shows. I'm finding it hard to wait for more DRT shows I need something to ease the abstinence.

But when looking for more free series to listen to I find it hard to figure out what shows are worth listening to. I'm looking for some good, preferrably "classic themed" series to listen to when driving to work. And why shouldn't I ask the people that shares my good taste?

I'm the last person to choose, because I love all kinds of stuff. Which is why I'll plug "The Sonic Society". It's a great way to listen to different shows and find which ones catch your interest the most. Every week a new show! And we just finished Season 4. So you've got plenty to catch up on...
Happy Listening!
J
P.S. Space 1889 rocks my world too!

That is the place I send new people as well. The Sonic Society is a good place to get a sample of all the great Audio Drama stuff. Then if you find something that you like you can subscribe to it. Everybody has different tastes.

But if you are looking for shows based on OTR and a laugh. try the Bell's in the Batfry, a fun show inspired by the Jack Benny show. (Plus if you go over to the Sonic Society the latest show has an interview with John Bell.) http://thebatfry.com/

Not to mention all the actual OTR shows out there. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is one of my favourites, and you can find it free as a podcast on iTunes.

Like Jack, I'll plug my show if you have eclectic tastes ;-) http://www.radiodramarevival.com.

We both feature a lot of great stuff and surprisingly there's little overlap. I feature mostly contemporary work, both from professional artists and the best of the podcast/amateur scene.

I'll chime in to plug 19 Nocturne Boulevard. There's no question that Decoder Ring Theatre got me hooked on modern audio drama (as opposed to the Internet Archive, which is where I get my OTR), but 19 brought me to these boards.

That's a pretty loaded question! Personally, I listen to all kinds of "OTR", new and old. The Internet Archive is a great free resource, and you sort of nibble here and there while you determine what you enjoy and what you don't. Some of my "classic" favorites are: Journey into Space (many, many episodes, a trilogy of sorts), Adventures by Morse, all the various Sherlock Holmes mysteries, Agatha Christie's Poirot, etc. ad infinitum.

Red Panda and Black Jack Justice are my favorite contemporary series, and I just listened to 65 Below, an excellent (but graphically violent, if that's possible in audio) audio-novel.

There's a whole world full of OTR (new and old). Only you can decide what you like, so jump in and start listening! :-)

BBC 4 and BBC 7 are gold mines. That's what I mainly listen to, other than DRT. Mysteries, Quiz Shows and all sorts of good fair can be found.

In order to save the Showcase for later, I've started listening to The Shadow. I'm not sure how many more episodes I can take because I have this growing urge to reach through the speakers and slap Margo Lane.

Well for me it's the series that got me started:

Secret World Chronicles http://www.secretworldChronicles.com

It's modern day take on superheroes after an attack by ......well the story is ongoing(slightly stalled) and co-created by Author Mercedes Lackey

a good site is also http://www.podiobooks.com has a good selection including (where I discovered seasons one and two of DRT. a few Gems:

Space Casey by Christina Ellis an sci-fi comedy that has to be heard to be believed.

Playing for Keeps by Mur Lafferty. A great take on superheros or heroes who happened to be super.(she has several different series)

Shadowmagic by John Lenahan a fantasy journey with an celtic flair.

MEME by Rob Lowell another that stands out on it's own.

and the "Share" trilogy by nathan Lowell which is a young man's Sci-fi Journey. as he matures in space a totally Story driven series and part a greater whole as they are all linked. (still on-going)

there is so many to list and the author still gets paid...(They Have links to the original side if you want to cut the middleman out and find more info on the author and series.
