Please forgive the form letter quality of this announcement. I’m e-mailing it to just about everyone I know, and posting it to every on-line site where I’m an active member (both of them).

I’m also trying to write quickly, before I dip too deeply into the celebratory glass of port.

I’ve finally been accepted into the Technical and Professional Communication certificate program at Glendon College (York University) for this Fall.

I applied some time ago, but my acceptance was delayed on account of the fact that I indicated I wanted to enroll for the Winter term when the program really starts in the Fall. Okay, my communication skills need some training, but that’s why I want to enroll in the program, right?

This was quickly straightened out, but still I had to wait. And I don’t wait well. I also find it hard to let myself be optimistic, so it’s been a bit of a struggle recently.

Oh, yes, this is good news indeed.

It feels weirdly disorienting not to have to worry about whether or not it will happen.




Sadly, no. But it will help me write up an instruction manual if you want to teach other people how to edit audio.

Technical communication (or writing) is what you do with information. Store, keep track of, evaluate, explain, share. Where I worked last, I helped the engineers explain their mass spectrometers to the end user, who was most likely not a fellow engineer and needed a translation out of engineer-speak.

It's something I was born to do, but I just didn't know the field existed until a few short years ago.
