Post Black Jack Justice (32) - Stormy Weather

It has been remarked more than once that there's always a calm just before the storm. Certified meteorological phenomenon or old wives saw, it was still true as often as it wasn't. And if that storm was destined to wash away Marilou Arden, it looked like it just might take a certain pair of gumshoes with her. Length: 36 min, Size: 12.6MB

Every once in a while you come a across a perfect dessert. One that you don't want to eat anything after, so that you can savor the flavor longer.

That was this episode for me. After listening, I didn't want to hear anything else so that I could keep the show ringing in my ears and mind.

That was a well-told tale. Not too many laugh out loud moments like last times episode, but it totally didn't need them.

Oh yeah its certainly a strength of Gregg to be able to bring us from laugh to tears from one episode to the next without it feeling jarring.

This felt VERY VERY satisfying. That guy got what was coming. I felt just as angry as Jack did and in Theo's place would have done the same thing. Jack could have been more threatening if he wanted, maybe invent a mob connection or something, but I think he wanted Paul to try and get back at Marilou just so Trixie could arrest him (or plug him).

Nice performance on the part of everyone involved.

And the first mention of Sabien's daughter since 'How much is that gumshoe in the window?', and now we get an age...when are we going to learn about the mother of that girl?

This episode felt like a variation on the theme of 'Justice and the Deluge', right down to the rain and Jack watching the girl walk away at the end... poor ol' Jack.

I gotta wonder if Jack charged Marilou for his services or not... the episode doesn't say. I would imagine he would be willing to do it for free but Trixie might complain.

Another thing I have to ask is why is this episode chronologically after Requiem for an Elf? I mean the story sound like it would be set in the fall, BEFORE Christmas. I know the release schedule got messed up with back in the summer but wouldn't it have been possible to switch the two episodes? I think the only time you mention an episode number is in the credit. Wouldn't that be easy to fix?

Don't assume one episode happens right after the other. You hear six cases a year. If that's all they did, they would make a couple of hundred bucks a year.

Trixie would prefer a paycheck, but payback for the sisterhood is one of those Grey areas for her.

Ahh, it's good to have something like this now and then. No evil forces of darkness, no supervillains, no cults, no mob hits, no nightmares to keep you awake with ghosts of old friends.

A bad guy, a good guy, a punch-up, a done deal.

Bullies always make a most agreeable thump when they hit the floor.

One thing that did stand out as a little melancholy however, was the discussion at the end between our two gumshoes.

Our two heroes have spent a lot of time putting themselves where they are, as they are. Everything they said there was true, but what exactly would you do differently?

Some good guys live happily ever after, some good guys buy them the train ticket to the proverbial better life and watch the train pull out. Find a new hard luck case to help tomorrow. Maybe that's why we like them so much?

For me, there has been two types of BJJ stories. One is comedic and the other is straight noir. Once a season, there is a story that I consider the perfect noir story, such as Justice and the Happy Ending and Dance Justice Dance. While I did not find one last season, Stormy Weather certainly fits the bill for this season. Looking forward to the next four adventures.

I found the banter at the end intriguing. Very intriguing.

I sense Gregg is foreshadowing something, but I really can't quite guess what.

I can guess what, but don't believe it, and assume I'm horribly terribly wrong.
